Director's Message

Welcome to The School of Public Health at The University of Hong Kong. In today’s complex world, improving the health and well-being of people and communities requires addressing a combination of longstanding and newer challenges and transformational opportunities that could not have been imagined a few decades ago. While an escalating array of emerging infectious diseases, rising levels of non-communicable diseases, continuing social inequities and strengthening the foundations of health and well-being remain core public health priorities, today’s concerns include the many effects of globalization and changing demographic, living and environmental patterns. At the same time, the core approaches, skills and tools of public health such as research, epidemiology, laboratory sciences, biostatistics, communications and policy shaping are being augmented by new opportunities created by advancing technologies, analytic approaches and international partnerships.

The School of Public Health at The University of Hong Kong is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of people around the world through research and education aimed at developing the knowledge, perspectives, and skills needed to make our interconnected world better. The School is part of The University of Hong Kong and the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, which are among the finest in the world, and is located in Hong Kong, a city that is vibrant with arts and culture, history, tradition, science, forward leaning ideas and sheer energy. Public health and the School offer exciting opportunities and I hope you join and connect with us.
