HKU MPH Alumni Share Career Journeys and Insights
As part of Orientation Week, the HKU Master of Public Health (MPH) Programme hosted "Where Are They Now? Alumni Career Journeys and Insights", bringing together incoming students, current students, and alumni for an inspiring discussion on public health careers, professional development, and lifelong learning.
Moderated by Dr Polly Wong, Deputy Academic Director of the HKU MPH Programme, the panel featured six alumni representing a diverse range of sectors, including research, academia, government, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and higher education.
Drawing on their personal and professional experiences, the speakers reflected on the opportunities and challenges they have encountered throughout their careers, the skills and competencies that have supported their growth, and the importance of collaborating with communities and stakeholders to address complex public health issues.
For many students beginning their MPH journey, the session offered valuable insights into the breadth of opportunities available after graduation. While each alumnus had followed a unique pathway, a common message resonated throughout the discussion: there is no single career pathway after an MPH. Public health knowledge, skills, and values can be applied across a wide range of settings to create meaningful and lasting impact.
The event also highlighted the strength of the HKU MPH alumni network and the important role alumni play in mentoring, inspiring, and supporting future public health professionals.
