Student Voice - Ng Wai Ping Charlotte

Self-introduction

I am Charlotte Ng Wai Ping, a registered dental hygienist. I have experience working in the private sector, providing clinical oral healthcare services and educating my patients on oral health. Currently, I also take on a teaching role to share dental hygiene knowledge with students.

Reasons for taking the MPH

I chose to pursue the Master of Public Health (MPH) to deepen my commitment to strengthening primary healthcare, which forms the foundation of a resilient healthcare system through equitable and timely access to essential services. Through my work in dental hygiene, I have come to recognise that sustainable improvements in health outcomes rely not only on treatment, but also on prevention, health promotion, and community-based education. The MPH’s focus on community health and the integration of public health principles with healthcare practice has equipped me with broader interdisciplinary perspectives and analytical skills to contribute to innovative primary healthcare strategies in Hong Kong.

Feelings about being granted the FTSS

I am honoured to have been granted the FTSS. In addition to reducing the financial pressures of postgraduate study, it serves as meaningful encouragement to pursue excellence in my study and in translating what I learn into real-world public health practice within my professional field.

What I have enjoyed most in the MPH so far

One of the most meaningful aspects of the MPH has been learning alongside classmates from diverse healthcare and professional backgrounds. Through group discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects, I have gained new perspectives and insights into health challenges and solutions, which has broadened my understanding of public health and primary healthcare in practice.

Future aspirations after graduating from the MPH

After completing the MPH, I hope to apply my training to primary healthcare in Hong Kong, with a focus on prevention, health promotion, and community-based education. In particular, I aspire to contribute to initiatives that strengthen both general and oral health, and to support population health in Hong Kong improvement through evidence-informed strategies.
